Although a long way gone
by Ishmael Beah
was published several years ago it has moved to the top of my must read list. I find myself facinated with stories (true stories) of triumph where people overcome unrelenting hardships. It keeps me grounded and grateful in many ways.
" A breathtaking and unselfpitying account of how a gentle spirit survives a childhood form which all innocence has suddenly been sucked out. It's a truly riveting memoir."
" Deeply moving, even uplifting ... Beah's story, with
its clear-eyed reporting and literate particularitywhether he's
dancing to rap, eating a coconut or running toward the burning village
where his family is trapped—demands to be read."
